Portree: A Local’s Guide
Portree is the main town on the Isle of Skye and the island’s central hub for food, shopping, and everyday essentials. Known for its colourful harbour, independent shops, and growing food scene, it’s the best place to stock up, slow down, and explore a different side of Skye. Portree can get very busy in the summer, while many people choose to base themselves here from Sligachan you are only a short drive to amenities, shops and cafes while still getting the most of the real wilderness of Skye.

Independent Shopping
Portree has a strong community of independent businesses, many focused on design, craft and local production.
A few of our favourites include…
ÒR
A carefully curated lifestyle store showcasing Scottish design, art, and thoughtfully selected goods from across the Highlands and beyond.
Skye Candles
One of Scotland’s most famous candle makers, can be found right here on Skye. Skye candles are all hand-poured, using soy wax and essential oils so there are no nasties to be found! Their candles are inspired by the nature, flora and colours of the island and their HQ has a delicious pizza restaurant on site too!
