Reasons To Stay At Glen Sligachan on Isle of Skye?

When planning a trip to the Isle of Skye, where you stay makes all the difference.

The island may look small on a map, but many visitors are surprised to discover that Skye is actually larger than London! With winding roads and busy summer traffic, journey times can quickly add up.

Set right in the middle of the Isle of Skye, Glen Sligachan sits at the foot of the dramatic Cuillin mountains and beside the famous Sligachan Bridge. Being located right off the A87 we are easily accessible to all including those travelling by public transport. Whether you’re camping, travelling by campervan or looking for self-catering accommodation, we’re an ideal base for exploring the island at your own pace.

With options for solo travellers, couples, families and larger groups, there’s something here for everyone - all surrounded by some of the most dramatic scenery in Scotland.

1. A Central Base for Exploring the Isle of Skye

One of the biggest advantages of staying at Glen Sligachan is location.

From here, you can easily reach many of Skye’s most famous spots:

📍Fairy Pools: approx. 23 minutes

📍Old Man of Storr: approx. 31 minutes

📍Quiraing: approx. 48 minutes

Instead of choosing between the North or South, you’re perfectly placed in the middle of the island - meaning less driving and more time exploring.

After a day of exploring, Glen Sligachan is a place to come back, reset and refuel.

Our campsite offers modern, recently upgraded bathroom and shower facilities designed for comfort after a full day outdoors.

When it comes to food and drink, everything you need is right here in the Glen. We also serve a selection of alcoholic beverages, perfect for enjoying a drink with views across the mountains.

All of our food and drink outlets are open to both residents and non-residents, so whether you’re staying with us or just passing through, you’re always welcome to stop in and enjoy a refuel at Glen Sligachan.

4. A Place to Stay, Not Just to Pass Through

The Isle of Skye has no shortage of places to stay - but few that feel as connected to the landscape as Glen Sligachan.

With the towering Cuillin mountains, the sound of the river running past the campsite, and Loch Sligachan close by, it’s a place where it’s easy to switch off and forget the pace of everyday life. We often say we are in the middle of nowhere yet the centre of everything, from Glen Sligachan you can reach every corner of the island with ease, while returning each day to the same mountain views, river, and sense of space.

Whether you’re camping, travelling by van, or staying in a lodge or blackhouse, Glen Sligachan offers a simple truth: this isn’t just a place to stay, it’s the true heart of the Isle of Skye.
