1. Skye’s Scenery Will Take Your Breath Away
The Isle of Skye is home to some of the most spectacular scenery in Scotland. From the towering Cuillin Mountains and crystal-clear waters of the Fairy Pools to iconic landmarks like the Old Man of Storr and the Quiraing, every corner of the island feels cinematic.
One of the joys of exploring Skye is that the views never stop. Every turn in the road reveals another loch, mountain ridge or dramatic coastline, and of course, no trip to Skye would be complete without spotting a few Highland cows along the way.
2. World-Class Hiking and Outdoor Adventures
Whether you’re an avid mountaineer or simply enjoy a scenic stroll - the Isle of Skye has outdoor adventures for every level. From summit climbs across the Cuillin Ridge, shorter hikes across the iconic Old Man of Storr and the Quirang to gentle walks to see stunning waterfalls. There’s no shortage of ways to experience the island on foot.
We’ve also put together a handy guide to some of our favourite walks from Glen Sligachan here. For walks more further afield, the community at Walk Highlands have created an excellent database for finding walks all across Scotland.

3. Wildlife Watching on The Isle of Skye
The Isle of Skye is one of the best places in Scotland to experience wildlife in its natural habitat. From Highland cows grazing by the roadside to sea eagles circling high above the Cuillin, nature is never far away here.
Head to the coast and you may spot seals basking on the rocks, dolphins in the water or even the occasional orca passing through. In land, red deer are often seen across the hills, while the island’s skies are full of birdlife.
And if all else fails, don’t worry - you’ll still leave with plenty of sheep sightings. Wild haggis, however, remain notoriously difficult to spot.

4. Skye is a Foodie’s Paradise!
The Isle of Skye has become one of Scotland’s most exciting food destinations in recent years. With incredible local produce on the doorstep - from freshly caught seafood and local meat to artisan baking and speciality coffee - it’s easy to see why visitors now come for the food as much as the scenery.
Portree is the island’s main hub for restaurants, cafés and bars, but some of Skye’s best spots are found off the beaten track.
And after a day of exploring, you don’t even need to leave Glen Sligachan to eat well. Back at the campsite, you can enjoy authentic Mexican tacos freshly made by Alberto - the perfect way to end a day of exploring.
Find out more about Alberto’s tacos in our journal post.

5. Whisky on the Isle of Skye
No trip to Scotland is complete without a wee dram of whisky, and the Isle of Skye is home to some of the country’s most iconic distilleries.
Just a short drive from Glen Sligachan you’ll find the world-famous Talisker Distillery, known for its rich maritime single malt and long-standing heritage on the island.
Further across the water, the Isle of Raasay Distillery offers a beautifully remote setting with views back across to Skye - a memorable stop for anyone exploring the islands.
Pair that with a warm welcome, a good story, and a bit of Highland hospitality, and you’ve got the full Skye experience.
6. Skye’s Rich History And Folklore
The Isle of Skye is steeped in history, myth and tradition. From ancient castles and clan heritage to dinosaur footprints preserved in stone, the landscape is full of stories that stretch back centuries.
But some of the most memorable stories are found right here at Glen Sligachan. Just beside us is Sligachan Bridge, where legend says that dipping your face in the water will grant you eternal youth - a story that continues to draw curious visitors to this day.
